Not a single case of violence or mistreatment of prisoners was recorded, which is an important conclusion - Beka Dzamashvili on the conclusion of the CPT experts

Not a single case of violence or mistreatment of prisoners was recorded, which is an important conclusion. Such a statement made today Beka Dzamashvili, the Deputy Justice Minister, while commenting the report published by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment [CPT], which includes information about the visit of experts to the VivaMedi Clinic in March 2023.

“First of all, it is noted that there were no cases of violence and mistreatment of prisoners, which is a very important conclusion.

Also, according to the experts’ assessment, the majority of convicts who undergo treatment at the VivaMedi Clinic are satisfied with the medical service received, and the experts themselves express their opinion that the clinic has created all conditions to provide adequate medical services to prisoners.

Here, we are talking about the infrastructure, the medical staff, and the medical service provided.

This is a crucial report, as protecting the prisoners’ rights and especially providing them with adequate medical services is one of the key priorities for the Justice Ministry, and we actively cooperate with all relevant bodies of the Council of Europe”, - said Beka Dzamashvili.

The CPT has published a report on prisoners’ conditions in VivaMedi Clinic, including Mikheil Saakashvili.
