We all achieved one main dream, our country became a candidate country for the European Union - Prime Minister at the conference of ambassadors

We all achieved one main dream, our country became a candidate country for the European Union, said the Prime Minister of Georgia in his speech at the opening of the Ambassadors’ conference.

“Welcome dear friends. It is a great honor for me to participate with you today in the conference of ambassadors, which is a very good tradition of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I greet the Speaker of the Parliament, members of the Parliament and the Government, representatives of our church, representatives of the patriarchate and, of course, I greet with great respect all the Ambassadors who are represented in this hall today.

I want to start the conversation by saying that we all achieved a great success together this year and we all fulfilled one main dream together and our country became a candidate country for the European Union. this is a great achievement of the joint work of the government and the people.

You all understand very well that this path was not easy. A lot of work has been done by both the Parliament and the Government, our diplomatic corps. The result is on our face. I would like to broadly review the specific results of our 11-year rule, which we have achieved in the direction of foreign policy. You know very well what the situation was 11 years ago. You well remember that no specific steps on the way to European integration were started, but on the contrary, every year, every month and every day, Georgia moved away from Europe. This was the reality, friends, until 2012, Georgia was moving away from Europe and was forming as an authoritarian, dictatorial regime.

This reality met Georgian Dream and Bidzina Ivanishvili. In just 11 years, our country is in the top ten in the world in terms of the development of democratization. Today, after 11 years, our country is a candidate member state of the EU”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
