During their visit to the United States, Prosecutor General of Georgia, Irakli Shotadze, and Minister of Justice, Rati Bregadze, held a meeting with Paul Abbate, Deputy Director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The bilateral meeting was attended by Georgian Ambassador to the United States Davit Zalkaliani, Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia Natia Merebashvili, Deputy Minister of Justice Beka Dzamashvili, Legal Advisor at the US Department of State Lena Owens, and representatives of the FBI.
As the Prosecutor General stated, the Prosecution Service of Georgia closely cooperates with the FBI. He expressed gratitude to Paul Abbate for the FBI’s support to Georgian investigators and prosecutors, particularly in obtaining investigative assistance and sharing experience and best practices.
In turn, the Deputy Director of the FBI thanked the Georgian side for their fruitful partnership in combating human trafficking and expressed his commitment to further deepening mutual cooperation.
Following the meeting, the Georgian delegation toured the FBI headquarters, gaining insightful knowledge of their procedural and technological operations.
During the official visit, Georgia and the US formally initialed agreements on mutual legal assistance and extradition, laying the groundwork for their subsequent signing and ratification.
