We have developed the Commission’s report, it indicates that we should continue to move towards membership, the process is based on merit - Ursula Von der Leyen

Less than an hour remains before the start of the historic summit. Today or tomorrow it will be clear whether Georgia will receive the status of a candidate country. Together with us, Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina are waiting for the message from Brussels.

The leaders of 27 countries must make a political decision on the issue of enlargement. All European structures, except the European Council, have received the green light - now it is the turn of the leaders to make a political decision.

At around 13:00 our time, the members of the European Council will start the meeting.

As the President of the European Commission said, according to the report developed by the Commission, progress towards the accession of countries should continue, although the process is based on merit.

“We have developed the report of the Commission. It indicates many good arguments to continue moving towards the accession of the countries. The process is merit based. This is, on the one hand, an incentive for candidate countries to earn merit by carrying out the necessary reforms. On the other hand, it is also necessary that we, the EU itself, know that the result obtained is truly deserved. This will be the topic of discussion”, - said Ursula von der Leyen.
