During their visit to London, the delegation of the Defense and Security Committee, led by Irakli Beraia, had a meeting with the Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Hon James Heappey, at the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.

The discussion at the meeting revolved around several key topics, including the current situation in the occupied territories of Georgia, security challenges in the region, ongoing and implemented reforms to enhance defense capabilities, transformation initiatives, mechanisms of defense cooperation between the two countries, and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration process.

The Georgian delegation stressed the importance of increasing the involvement of the United Kingdom and NATO in the region, underscored the significance of UK support in implementing the 10-year development plans for the Georgian defense forces, and emphasized the need to expedite Georgia"s Euro-Atlantic integration. The British side expressed its commitment to actively support Georgia in these areas and further deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations. The Georgian MPs conveyed their gratitude to the high-ranking British official for his contributions to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and defense cooperation between Georgia and the United Kingdom.

Besides, the Georgian held meetings with their British counterparts, including Wendy Morton, a member of the House of Commons delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; Harriett Baldwin, Chairman of the Treasury Committee; and Alicia Kearns, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the British House of Commons.

During these meetings, the Georgian parliamentarians provided comprehensive information about Georgia’s security environment and the situation in the occupied territories. They also briefed their British counterparts on the reforms that have been implemented in pursuit of Euro-Atlantic and European integration, highlighting the progress achieved. The importance of further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and supporting Georgia in its Euro-Atlantic integration process was emphasized.

“The main message we heard from our partners in London is that Georgia pursues a prudent and prudent security and foreign policy, and that Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the strengthening of its defense capabilities and security, as well as our country’s Euro-Atlantic integration, will always be supported by the United Kingdom”, - said Irakli Beraia.
