475 million Euros will be allocated from the State Budget for the renovation of Tbilisi metro carriages, as announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at a meeting held this morning with Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi and Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance of Georgia.
Discussion held within the Government Administration was focused on the details of the project proposal and anticipated steps to be implemented in the future.
As noted by Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi procurement of 212 units of modern, world-class carriages complying with international standards is planned within the scope of the project, which will be phased and actual replacement of existing obsolete trains will be carried out over the next 15 years.
According to him, 212 carriages constitute to 45 trains in total. According to the concept of the project, 13 units of 4-carriage trains will be intended for the Saburtalo line, while 32 units of 5-car trains will be allocated for the Akhmeteli-Varketili line.
As Kakha Kaladze noted, the total budget of the project is about 475 million Euros and will be fully financed from the State Budget, for which he expressed gratitude to the Government of Georgia and personally Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
In line with this decision, a market survey will be announced in the next few days and followed with an international tender to admit bids from highly-qualified and experienced foreign companies manufacturing metro carriages and suburban trains.
