Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Pia Kauma, President of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) today.
The Head of Government of Georgia congratulated the visiting dignitary on the appointment to the position of the President of OSCE PA and reiterated the sheer interest of Georgia in continuing a fruitful cooperation with OSCE PA.
Discussion was related to the general elections scheduled in 2024 in Georgia. As the Prime Minister noted, authorities assign special importance to holding the transparent, free and fair parliamentary elections in compliance with international standards and best democratic practices of Europe.
According to the Head of Government of Georgia, the country stands ready to ensure the monitoring of elections by representatives of various international organizations and institutions, including the OSCE PA.
Dignitaries spoke about the recommendation issued by the European Commission on the status of an EU Candidate Country be granted to Georgia by the European Council. The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted the historic importance of the referred recommendation.
Current situation witnessed in the region was also discussed at the meeting. As the Prime Minister noted, Georgia already made steps towards facilitating communication between the neighbors and stability within the region. It remains committed to solidifying peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
Situation observed in the territories of Georgia under Russian occupation was also discussed at the meeting today. The Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the President of OSCE PA for the attention paid to the topics related to a peaceful conflict resolution in the region.
