Salome Kurasbediani participates in the “United4Moldova” conference held in Chisinau

Salome Kurasbediani, a member of the European Integration Committee, took part in the “United4Moldova” conference organized by the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, held in Chisinau. The conference saw the participation of Chairs from the EU Integration and Foreign Relations Committees of 19 EU member states, as well as representatives from Georgia and Ukraine.

During the conference, Salome Kurasbediani addressed the attendees and discussed the progress that Georgia has made on its European integration path. She also emphasized the significance of the European Union’s decision regarding the granting of candidate status to Georgia.

“The decision made last year to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova and to recognize Georgia’s European perspective was undoubtedly historic. However, it is widely acknowledged that this decision did not fully reflect Georgia"s achievements and its geopolitical significance. As a result, we hold high hopes that the European Commission will provide a fair and accurate assessment of Georgia"s progress and the substantial efforts it has made. Furthermore, we anticipate that the European Council will follow suit and grant us candidate status in December. Timely strategic decisions by the EU are of paramount importance for Georgia, and they play a pivotal role in positioning the European Union as a prominent geopolitical actor in the region.

Georgia’s commitment to its European path is deeply rooted in our civilization and history. Since signing the Association Agreement with the EU in 2014, Georgia has emerged as a frontrunner in terms of implementing reforms and achieving positive socio-economic indicators. Our substantial progress on the path to EU integration has been consistently acknowledged, as evidenced by the European Commission’s report published in February and various reputable global rankings.

It is crucial to bear in mind that all these advancements have been achieved despite the challenging backdrop of Russia’s illegal occupation of 20% of Georgia’s territory for over three decades”, - said Salome Kurasbediani.

The delegations participating in the conference unanimously adopted the resolution supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.
