David Narmania inaugurated the conference dedicated to GNERC’s Foundation Day

David Narmania, the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), inaugurated the conference dedicated to GNERC’s Foundation Day. In his address, Narmania outlined the Commission’s evolution, future plans, and highlighted the projects undertaken by GNERC for the advancement of the energy and water supply sectors in recent years, protection of customer rights, and international relations.

“October 23 marks GNERC’s Foundation Day. We have decided to commemorate this significant date annually and showcase the projects executed by the Commission to the public. On October 23, 1997, the establishment of the first apparatus of the Electricity Regulatory Commission was signed, and individuals who were to form the Regulatory Commission and fulfil the obligations imposed by legislation were identified. Since its inception, GNERC has played a pivotal role in the development of regulated sectors. Recently, we have added the regulation of the amelioration sector to our functions and have begun addressing challenges in this area. We are hopeful that our work will be as successful as it has been in the energy and water supply sectors.

Since its inception, GNERC has adhered to principles of objectivity, non-discrimination, impartiality, justice, and independence. The hallmarks of the Commission’s activity include collaboration with all stakeholders, consistency in problem-solving, professionalism, competence, and transparency.

On behalf of myself and my team, all GNERC employees, I would like to express gratitude to legislative and executive agencies, licensee companies, international and donor organizations, experts, media, and the non-governmental sector for their close and effective cooperation with the Regulatory Commission”, - said David Narmania.

The First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, also addressed the conference dedicated to GNERC’s Foundation Day. Vladimer Papava, who served as Minister of Economy from 1994-2000, spoke about GNERC’s establishment in 1997. The event was attended by representatives from government agencies, companies operating in the energy and water supply sectors, international donor organizations, and experts in this field.

The conference also recognized representatives of GNERC’s first staff. For their contribution to GNERC’s development, meritorious employees of the Commission were granted the title of Honorary GNERC Employee
