At the end of the year, we will congratulate Georgia on receiving candidate status, and we will offer our condolences to the opposition. Such a statement made today Guram Macharashvili, a member of People’s Power.

“At the end of the 2023, the US and the European Union, where the decision must be made, will make a rational, correct and fair decision, which already belonged to Georgia in 2022, that is, granting candidate status. We all know how the candidate status is objectively granted to the country: reforms must be carried out, state institutions must work and their work must be in accordance with international standards.

Naturally, Georgia deserved it last year as well. However, the political decision was unfair. This year we are sure that the role of Georgia in the modern world will be fairly assessed and the EU will make a correct, dignified and most importantly fair decision.

The opposition has declared mourning, because their agenda is not to receive the status but to try to cause unrest in the country, but I can tell them that at the end of the year we will congratulate Georgia on receiving the candidate status, while we will offer our condolences to the opposition”, - said Guram Macharashvili.
