The time when President thought he was above the law or the Constitution is over in this country - Garibashvili

The time when President thought he was above the law or the Constitution is over in this country. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia, while commenting the decision of the Constitutional Court.

“As for the court’s decision, this is a sad fact, because unfortunately it has been proven that the head of the country, our state, Mrs. Salome is a confirmed violator of the Constitution. Of course, I, as the Prime Minister and as an ordinary citizen, am not really happy about this. I don’t want the President of my country to be a violator of the Constitution or any law.

Of course, this is a very sad fact. Instead of the President setting an example to others, other public officials or next presidents, instead of always being on guard to protect the main law of the country, the Constitution, Mrs. Salome, has blatantly, demonstratively and repeatedly violated the Constitution, which has now been confirmed by the Constitutional Court. This decision will not be reviewed.

We said from the beginning that we did not expect that the majority would gather the necessary votes, nor did anyone have any big illusions. We didn’t have enough votes, but we, the rulers of the country, the members of the Government and the Parliament, should set an example.

We should remind the President and everyone that the time when the President thought he / she was above the law or the Constitution is over in this country. This is very sad. Perhaps, you will agree with me that part of our citizens expected that she would bring European standards to Georgian politics. The European standard implies that everyone follows the law and the Constitution. We got the complete opposite picture when Mrs. Salome told us that she does not recognize the Constitution. This is a shameful fact, friends”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
