Irakli Garibashvili meets Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary

At the one-on-one meeting held within the scope of Viktor Orbán’s official visit to Georgia, the close partnership between Georgia and Hungary was discussed. As the Head of Government pointed out, through joint efforts the cooperation between the countries has advanced to a new stage, which encompasses regular exchange visits and enhanced sectoral ties.

The parties reviewed prospects of deepening the existing productive cooperation in a variety of areas. According to the Prime Minister, holding the Intergovernmental Summit in Georgia is part of the practical implementation of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership signed between Georgia and Hungary in Budapest.

When discussing European integration, Irakli Garibashvili noted that Georgia is irreversibly pursuing the European path. He overviewed the steps taken by the Georgian Government on this path. According to the Prime Minister, the Government has ensured an open, transparent, and inclusive process for the implementation of the 12 priorities, and is now expecting a fair and merit-based decision from the EU at the end of this year. The Prime Minister thanked Viktor Orbán for firmly supporting our country’s European integration and emphasized that Georgia appreciates the unwavering support of friendly Hungary on this path.

The parties summarized the progress achieved in the direction of economic cooperation between the countries. It was noted that, in 2023, the trade turnover is up 21% to make up 46,62 million USD. As the Head of Government pointed out, the economic cooperation between Georgia and Hungary has enormous potential, and it is important to tap into the existing opportunities. According to him, Georgia is interested in attracting investments into such sectors as renewable energy, logistics, tourism, and others.

Irakli Garibashvili and Viktor Orbán discussed the dynamic of the implementation of the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project connecting the Caucasus Region and Europe. The Prime Minister underlined that the implementation of flagman projects initiated by Georgia is vitally important for utilizing full energy potential and achieving common goals in the direction of energy security.
