As a result of the investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Service (SIS), the inspector-controller of the Penitentiary Service was revealed in neglected his official duty in a case of ill-treatment of the prisoner.
The investigation established that on August 1, 2023, within N 10 penitentiary institution, the inspector-controller, responsible for ensuring the proper supervision of the prisoner G.G. conducted his official duties improperly. He failed a required check of the convict within the ward"s bathroom. Due to the employee"s careless attitude to his duties, the unsupervised prisoner committed suicide by using a lace in the bathroom.
The SIS in collaboration with the Penitentiary Service ensured all essential investigative and procedural actions. This included conducting interviews with 35 individuals, inspecting N 10 penitentiary institution and the scene of the incident, obtaining material evidence from that area, and conducting a range of examinations, such as complex chemical, biological, forensic-medical, microparticle, and trasological analyses. Additionally, video recordings of the incident were obtained as part of the investigation.
Based on the obtained evidence throughout the investigation, the Prosecutor"s Office of Georgia charged the law enforcement officer with neglect of official duty under Article 342, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The Crime shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of two to five years. The Special Investigation Service (SIS) continues the investigation.
