Koka Katsitadze meets with Thierry Gillis, Inspector General of the General Inspectorate of the Federal and Local Police of Belgium

The Head of the Special Investigation Service [SIS] Koka Katsitadze, along with his deputies Giorgi Kvaratskhelia and Natia Songulashvili, held a meeting with Thierry Gillis, the Inspector General of the General Inspectorate of the Federal and Local Police, during his official visit to Brussels.

The General Inspectorate of the Federal and Local Police of Belgium is an independent oversight body responsible for examining the activities of police services and providing recommendations for their proper functioning.

The Georgian delegation was hosted by Thierry Gillis, who provided comprehensive information about the structure of the Inspectorate, the challenges it faces, the role of the police in managing demonstrations and the specific aspects of its work.

The discussions also covered issues related to the protection of personal data following European standards in the fight against corruption within the police force, existing challenges in this area and potential solutions. Head of the SIS expressed his gratitude to the Inspector General of the Belgian Police for the invitation as well as readiness for future cooperation.

The official visit of the SIS representatives to Belgium was supported by the Council of Europe project “Human Rights Compliant Policing in Georgia”.
