Romania would provide full support to Georgia receiving the bloc’s candidate status - Papuashvili

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament met Romanian Prime Minister. Shalva Papuashvili thanked Marcel Ciolacu for support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and underscored the positive dynamics of Georgia-Romania relations in security and economy, stressing the significance of the Black Sea submarine electricity cable for the region and European energy independence.

“Romania has always supported the granting of status to Georgia, including in June 2022.

The meeting emphasised that it was important to maintain the Associated Trio, and where there is Ukraine and Moldova, there should be Georgia as well. As yesterday in the Parliament, as well as today, we received an offer from the [Romanian] Prime Minister to support [Georgia] not only now in the political decision-making process, but also later, in the approximation of legislation to European law, and sharing the experience of Romania in this regard.

Romania would provide full support to Georgia receiving the bloc’s candidate status in the spirit of the strategic partnership signed between the two countries in 2022.

The Black Sea is what unites Romania and Georgia not only in economic and security terms, but also as countries that can take the lead in order to fully use the economic potential of the bridge between Europe and Asia through the Black Sea and the Caucasus region.

The Georgian Government would have active cooperation with Romania in the latter’s status as a NATO member country and one of our big supporters in matters of military development and NATO integration”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
