Differences of opinion in the EU are more confusing and frustrating for countries that have been waiting years to join. Such a statement made today MP from the Georgian Dream, Mikheil Sarjveladze.

“I wish there was more clarity. It is difficult to disagree with the view that dates alone don’t mechanically determine either candidate status or membership. This requires meeting specific circumstances and prerequisites.

For the population of countries that are waiting for EU integration, it would be important to present some predictions. In this sense, Charles Michel’s statement, while implying a longer term, contained more clarity. Talking about the fact that the year 2030 cannot be a relevant time either - or it may take more or less - this, of course, creates more ambiguity.

We must remember that it is especially important to develop the country in the right direction. We should understand that there is a lot of work to be done in Georgia so that we can actually develop the country. This, of course, is in line with the EU plan in this direction. We should also remember that it has practically become a reality for Georgia to be ambitious in this direction and to have positive evaluations in terms of meeting all requirements”, - said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
