Hungarian President Katalin Novak said that she urged Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia to bring peace closer. She said this in an interview with the Hungarian newspaper Index.
“This war has not only destroyed the lives of Ukrainians, but also, as Pope Francis said, "brought the conflict into our homes”, - she said.
Novak stressed that Hungary condemns Russia’s aggression and understands Zelensky’s desire to protect Ukrainians. At the same time, the Hungarian president believes that negotiations are the best way to end the war.
“This war has been going on for a year and a half, and I don’t see any military solution that would lead to sustainable peace in the long term. That is why we need to sit down at the negotiating table! I have expressed this firm opinion to Zelensky both publicly and privately”, - she said.
At the same time, Novak said that Hungary is ready to join President Zelensky’s Peace Formula.
