Unfortunately, there is a targeted campaign to undermine Georgia’s path to the European Union - Kelly Degnan

Unfortunately, there is a targeted campaign to undermine Georgia’s path to the European Union. Such a statement the US Ambassador to Georgia made at the summary press conference.

“We help Georgia to continue the path of progress along the road to Europe. The majority of Georgian citizens are still loyal to this path. We hope that there will be progress on this path in the future. Significant, impressive achievements have already been made.

We cooperate with many ministries and at the local level, we help in the steps necessary for Georgia to meet the requirements for membership of the European Union and NATO. We wish Georgia success in this aspiration. That is exactly why we have been cooperating with Georgia so closely for decades. We will continue to cooperate with Georgia on this path. We are committed to the success of Georgia.

Politicians are politicians, I really don’t take anything they say about me personally. I believe that there are people who show too much emotion. The focus should be on getting the job done, the road map is written, concrete steps are to be taken, if the government and policy makers follow this road map that they have been given and follow the inclusive process, it would prove the commitment that the political leaders are showing in Georgia to fulfill the demand of their population, to at least move to the next step of EU membership. It also requires political courage to do this difficult job. Reforms are difficult and everyone knows that.

Unfortunately, I believe that a targeted campaign is underway, which is aimed at undermining Georgia’s path to the EU. Georgians are used to this pro-Russian disinformation campaign, they have witnessed it before.

In fact, the attack was carried out against the citizens of Georgia for many years, if not decades. I am sure that the truth is available to Georgians, the media promotes it, and the citizens of Georgia will make an informed choice. I haven’t met the people who are commenting on me, they haven’t met me and I can’t really take it personally.

However, I consider it very important that those who try to confuse Georgians, those who try to divide this society or maintain this division and polarization firmly, we should push these people aside. Georgian citizens should hear the truth”, - said Kelly Degnan.
