Ministry of Health starts issuing CGM systems for children with sugar diabetes

Free of charge handover of the newest CGM systems and smartphones to conduct continuous blood glucose monitoring for children with diabetes mellitus started.

The newest, fourth generation device by Medtronic - Guardian 4, does not require calibration to display data. This is a modern technology of diabetes control. Both the 3rd and the 4th generation devices continuously measure glucose level, record glucose reading, issues an alarm signal, providing opportunity for early response and prevention of life-threatening condition.

Guardian 4 has been studied and approved in patients 7 years of age and older. The recommendation of using the device in children under 7 years has not been issued by the representatives of the company and specialists. Thus the system is distributed for individuals aged 7-18. Distribution of Guardian 3 continues for children under 7. The Ministry continues work with experts, considering the possibility of lowering age limit and provision of children under 7 with the fourth generation device.

As for smartphones, on the basis of an application, the devises will be provided to socially unprotected children with diabetes mellitus from the families with the rating score not exceeding 120, 000, as well as to the families with two or more members with diabetes mellitus under the age of 18.
