Lech Kaczynski was in favor of the admission of Ukraine and Georgia to NATO, he was ridiculed, but history showed that he was right. Such a statement made Andrzej Duda, the President of Poland, at the ceremony dedicated to the Polish Army Day.
“Exactly 3 days ago, 15 years have passed since the historic speech of President Lech Kaczynski in Tbilisi during the Russian aggression, at the moment when Russian tanks were heading towards the capital of Georgia.
The brave President of Poland, together with other brave leaders of our region, from the center of Tbilisi, called the free world to unite and resist Russia’s imperialist attempts...and he warned them: “Today Georgia, tomorrow, the Baltic States, and then, perhaps, my country too, Poland!”
We remember these words very well. Professor Lech Kaczynski, my teacher, was a big supporter of further NATO expansion, including in relation to Ukraine and Georgia, which would provide security for our entire region. Unfortunately, he was not listened to then. He was attacked, ridiculed terribly, his ideas rejected. But he was right. History has proved this”, - said Andrzej Duda.
