Ruslan Abashidze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, laid a wreath at the memorial in Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery to the heroes who died during the August 2008 war and paid tribute to the memory of the heroes fallen in the fight for independence and territorial integrity of Georgia.

“It has been fifteen years since Georgia faced its great tragedy. We honor and remember the brave military soldiers and the civilians who sacrificed their lives during the difficult days of August 2008 today.

Economic progress, steady growth, and the prospect of a better future, in my opinion, should unite us with our Abkhazian and Ossetian fellow citizens. We can only ensure the union of our country by implementing a peace policy and enlisting the support of the international community. Once again, I bow before those brave individuals who gave their lives to protect Georgia’s statehood. On the basis of their dedication, honorable generations will be raised!”, - Ruslan Abashidze stated.
