US government officials will attend a Ukraine peace summit in Saudi Arabia, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, adding he could not give more details.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia would invite Western states, Ukraine and major developing countries to the talks. The WSJ report said that the talks would take place in Jeddah on August 5 and 6 with some 30 countries attending.
The Head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host talks on the situation in Ukraine during which a peace plan is expected to be discussed: “We are preparing the next meeting of national security advisers regarding the implementation of the Ukraine Peace Formula, which will soon take place in Saudi Arabia. The meeting would be similar to talks that took place in June in Copenhagen”.
