Rare diseases coordinating council approved national achondroplasia protocol. Such a statement made today Ivane Chkhaidze, the medical director of the Iashvili Central Children’s Hospital.
“The protocol received a very high evaluation from a German expert, who directly noted that such a good, detailed and informative protocol regarding this disease does not exist in the world today.
The medicine [vosoritide] has certain side effects that may require a doctor’s supervision and even medical intervention, so one clinic was selected in Georgia, it is the Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital.
Implementation of this protocol and detailed study of patients requires a multi-disciplinary clinic, with the participation of at least 6-7 different specialists, which is provided in the Iashvili clinic.
The date has not been set yet, but in 2023 they will be involved in this process”, - explained Ivane Chkhaidze.
As he added, the first phase will involve 5-6 children, ages 11, 12, and 13, who will fall under the protocol because they have little time left for the medicine to be effective. The second stage will entail more kids.
