The Special Penitentiary Service releases a statement and footage regarding the visit of Polish doctors to Mikheil Saakashvili.

“On November 29, 2022, the Minister of Justice, based on the high responsibility with which the state treats the life and health of prisoners, suggested to Mikheil Saakashvili, who didn’t take into account the recommendations of the treating doctors, to invite any foreign doctor from any foreign clinic in order to include them in the treatment process.

On March 20, 2023, the mother of the convict applied to the agency with a statement that didn’t meet the standards established by the Georgian legislation.

It was explained to the applicant more than once, in writing and orally, that doctors should have the right to perform temporary medical activities in Georgia, and also other requirements stipulated by the legislation should be respected. Nevertheless, the public was given wrong information that Polish doctors were allegedly not allowed to visit the convict.

7 months after the offer of the Ministry of Justice, on July 5, 2023, the lawyer of M. Saakashvili presented an appeal regarding the admission of Polish doctors to the convict at the Vivamed clinic.

On July 12, the doctors named by them were given the opportunity to visit the convict, which once again confirmed the commitment of the agency to the given promise.

The July 3 letter submitted by the same lawyer indicated that the given information was confidential. Later, through one of the TV channels, the public practically saw the process of doctors’ entry into the clinic on live TV, about which political programs were made, and they themselves violated confidentiality.

During the visit, there was an incomprehensible incident from one of the Polish doctors. In particular, he wrapped the sample taken from Mikheil Saakashvili in paper and tried to sneak it out with his shoe.

It should be noted that the Service itself gave them the right to take out the sample taken in an official manner, therefore, the mentioned action on the part of the doctor adds even more ambiguity to the behavior inconsistent with medical ethical and legal norms. This person was requested to give an explanation that cannot be logically explained.
