Economic Council meeting gets held and led by the Prime Minister of Georgia

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia held and led a meeting of the Economic Council at the Government Administration today.

Current economic projects and future plans were discussed at the meeting. The discussion touched upon the issue of wheat import. It was noted that as a result of heavy rainfall, a significant part of the wheat crop in the Kakheti region cannot meet the requirements of food processing, as a result of which farmers have to sell wheat for fodder. In order to facilitate and smoothly implement the mentioned process, a decision was made regarding the restriction of fodder-grinded wheat import until November 1, 2023.

The rising economic indicators in the country were highlighted at the meeting. It was noted that the government took effective steps at the beginning of this year and as a result the country has an inflation of 0.6% and expectation is that annual inflation will be lower than planned this year.

The conversation also touched upon the development of the digital economy in Georgia. It was noted that country strives to get established as a Digital Hub in the region and the government aims to make the most of the potential that the country has in the direction of the digital transit corridor (hub) connecting Asian and European countries.

Infrastructure projects in the regions of the country were also discussed at the Economic Council Meeting today, along with the current and new projects in the process of implementation.

Preparations for the harvest in 2023 and smooth accommodation for the crop were also reviewed at the meeting.
