Davit Narmania, Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC), presented the 2022 activity report of GNERC. The event included representatives from legislative and executive bodies, electricity, natural gas, and water supply companies, as well as international organizations, donors, and NGOs. He highlighted the outcomes of the regulations implemented by GNERC in 2022 to foster the progress of the energy and water supply sectors.

“The year 2022 was important for the regulatory commission. During the energy market reform, GNERC played a crucial role in developing various normative acts and actively worked on establishing regulatory norms that serve as guidelines for companies operating in regulated sectors. The Commission"s activity was effective in terms of simplifying easy access to utility services and safeguarding consumer rights. "Over the past year, GNERC successfully resolved unjustly accrued and old debts to citizens, resulting in a write-off of over one million GEL.

GNERC is committed to collaborating with all interested parties to enhance the development of the energy and water supply sectors and enhance regulatory norms. GNERC’s primary task is to maintain a delicate balance between the interests of utility companies and consumers. It is important for every citizen in Georgia to have an understanding of GNERC"s functions, and consumers should be aware of their right to approach GNERC in cases where their rights have been infringed by companies”, - said David Narmania.

He also spoke about the energy training center: “GNERC has made it a top priority to enhance public awareness and understanding of energy and water supply matters. To fulfill this objective, the Energy Training Center was established at GNERC under my initiative last year, providing valuable training opportunities on essential subjects related to regulated sectors for diverse stakeholders. The Center has already seen the graduation of nearly 1,000 participants, which encourages us to continuously offer new training courses”.

During the event, the chairman of GNERC discussed the upcoming plans for 2023 and emphasized the regulatory commission’s role in fostering innovative approaches within the energy and water supply sectors. He highlighted that GNERC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, is actively engaged in advancing the green hydrogen industry and promoting the efficient utilization of renewable energies.
