We are glad that the international community, regardless of geographical location, is united in supporting the independence, freedom and European future of Georgia, Ukraine and other similar states - Papuashvili

We appreciate the unwavering support of the Assembly for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, which is very important in today’s challenging times, said the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia at the opening ceremony of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie.

“The Parliament of Georgia has been actively cooperating with the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie for years. We appreciate the unwavering support of the Assembly for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, which is very important in today’s challenging times. Not so long ago, the reminder of respect for the fundamental principles of international law would have surprised many and been considered too active.

However, first in 2008, with the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia, and now with the invasion of Ukraine, it became clear how important it is to support partners on this issue and to restrain aggressor states. We are glad that the international community, regardless of geographical location, is united in supporting the independence, freedom and European future of Georgia, Ukraine and other similar states.

On its part, Georgia respects the principles and values of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, cooperation and the global order based on international law. This is the foundation that brings our country back to its European roots. Georgia is doing everything for this.

My parents’ generation was able to escape from the Soviet annexation and regain state independence. The duty and main concern of our generation is to strengthen this independence and ensure peace and prosperity in the country, so that young people, future generations have the opportunity to conquer new heights in the name of independent and free Georgia on a global scale”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
