The Chair of the Defense and Security Committee, Irakli Beraia and Majority MPs visited the Major Gela Chedia Special Operations Training Center in Mukhrovani. MPs, accompanied by the Deputy Defense Minister, Grigol Giorgadze, got cognizant of the infrastructural works at a new base for the Special Operations Forces and were informed about the project details.

The commandment of the Special Operations Training Center introduced the history, structure, tasks and plans of the unit and overviewed the international cooperation state. As noted, the first stage of works is being intensively undertaken in the Center covering the barracks, infirmary and canteen construction. The project of a new Special Operations Training base in Mukhrovani envisages the construction of 24 new premises and the rehabilitation of 3 already existing buildings.

“We, the Majority MPs had an opportunity to get cognizant of the infrastructure and material-technical base of the Center. We witnessed unprecedented infrastructural projects, including the construction of new facilities and the rehabilitation of existing premises. It is the first project of this wide scale for the Defense Forces and now, such projects are being undertaken countrywide for years and aim at the total modernization of our defense forces systems and infrastructure and construction of new facilities. The Special Operations Forces are of particular value in the Defense Forces since they have to realize the operations of a full range and thus, play a key role in total defense and coordination of resistance. Now, it is up to us – lawmakers to direct funds and resources as much as possible to the national defense and ensure the uninterrupted increase of its budget. We aspire to further serve similar visits in view of parliamentary oversight and appreciation and support of our military men and Georgian Army”, - said Beraia.

MPs enjoyed the opportunity to visit the shooting range and hear about machinery, equipment and armament; MPs also visited a chapel on the territory of a base.
