We confirmed to the Romanian side what we are also telling the Georgian public - that by 2030, Georgia will be ready to join the European Union. Such a statement made Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, Nikoloz Samkharadze, who is continuing his visit to Bukharest.
"We also very openly asked whether the EU will be ready for enlargement in 2030, given the challenges it faces today - starting with economic problems, as well as migration issues, security concerns, Ukraine, strengthening defense, NATO, and relations with the new U.S. administration.
As a result, we had a very frank discussion, and the Romanian side took a very realistic stance, telling us that they fully share the concerns and fears we have regarding the EU`s enlargement.
We believe that 5 years is a realistic timeframe, and if the country remains peaceful, we will be able to implement the necessary reforms for EU membership", - said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
