Police officers managed to stop an “ISIS terror plot” ahead of England’s Euro 2024 final in Berlin after completing a series of raids which saw 2 suspects detained, writes dailymail.co.uk.
German Special Forces managed to successfully foil the attack after fears it would take place at the Three Lions fan zone in Breitscheidplatz ahead of England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain last Sunday. Police carried out a series of coordinated raids in nearby Potsdam, as they looked for 5 men who were said to be known IS supporters. The men, already under German police surveillance, had been photographed on phones at Breitscheidplatz and a nearby large church.
A spokesperson for Berlin Police told The Sun on Sunday: “The homes of 3 men were searched at 3 addresses in Potsdam. Forces from the special task forces were involved in the operation. The measures were carried out in connection with an immediate threat from the Islamist spectrum”.
The suspects were believed to be under surveillance in the days leading up to the final and have since been released under investigation.
