If the US undergoes de-oligarchization, clears itself of informal influences, and cleanses the "Deep state", relations will move in a very positive direction - Irakli Kobakhidze

If the US undergoes de-oligarchization, clears itself of informal influences, and cleanses the "Deep state", relations will move in a very positive direction. Such a statement made the Prime Minister.

"Today, relations with the EU and the US are at an entirely undesirable level. We are calling for a reset.

Let me remind you how the processes developed over the past 3 years. First, we submitted the application for candidate status.
The Government prepared a 5,000-page document, with public servants working day and night to complete it. It was well-known that Georgia outpaced Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia in all parameters. We submitted the application in June, only to be denied without any justification.

Before the decision, NGOs claimed they should fill out the questionnaire, even as they said the country was collapsing. Their intention was clear: to prepare a document that would ensure we didn’t receive candidate status. Before June, the head of the EU integration programs at the Soros Foundation, Chkhikvadze, officially called on the EU to deny Georgia candidate status. If this isn’t double standards and dishonesty, what is? Did anyone condemn this person for lobbying for an unjust decision against Georgia? Why didn’t NGOs or political parties, claiming to prioritize European integration, criticize him? Instead, they shifted the blame for not receiving candidate status onto us, demanded our resignation.

For a year and a half, we faced sabotage over the 12-point plan, despite fully and diligently implementing every requirement. NGOs and political parties refused to participate in working groups and openly campaigned against candidate status.

They falsely claimed the government was doing nothing and said we didn’t deserve status, all while pretending European integration was their ultimate goal. This was pure farce and deception. We did everything, yet they engaged in sabotage and created artificial obstacles. EU politicians and officials even supported this sabotage. It was a transparent, manipulative game: they claimed to be pro-European, labeling us anti-European, despite lobbying against status for Georgia.

Today, despite being at this undesirable point, we remain optimistic, partly due to changes anticipated in the US On January 20, Donald Trump’s inauguration as the new president will take place, and there is a high likelihood that the war in Ukraine will end under his leadership. This will bring regional stability, positively affecting Georgia.

Additionally, Trump has declared his intent to fight the “Deep state”. Informal, oligarchic influences have been the primary issue in US-Georgia relations. If the US undergoes de-oligarchization, clears itself of informal influences, purges the “Deep state”, our relations will move in a very positive direction, which will directly reflect on Georgia-EU relations”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
