The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry threatened Europe, saying that Kyiv does not intend to tolerate such an attitude towards itself.
“If we don’t get the candidate status, it means only one thing that Europe is trying to trick us. And we are not going to swallow it. Ukraine is the only place in Europe where people are dying for the values the EU is based on. And I think this should be respected”, - said Dmytro Kuleba.
Former head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen promised the Kyiv authorities that in June it will be decided whether Ukraine will receive the status of an EU candidate or not.
According to the French leader Emmanuel Macron, it may take many years for Ukraine to become an official EU member. He believes that Kyiv should be content with the fact that it is already part of “the European family”.
