Reunification of the country and peaceful restoration of its territorial integrity remained the Government’s top priority - Maka Botchorishvili

Reunification of the country and peaceful restoration of its territorial integrity remained the Government’s top priority. Such a statement made Maka Botchorishvili, Chairperson of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee who was nominated for the post of the Foreign Minister by the Prime Minister.

In her remarks at a joint meeting of parliamentary committees, Botchorishvili noted that the “goal” of the Georgian Government was to reboot relations with the United States, which implies the restoration of relations based on the principles of “equality and fairness”, taking into account the interests of both parties.

“The past 4 years have highlighted in particular how greatly external factors influence our country’s domestic politics and, conversely, how our domestic issues are used in foreign policy.

Therefore, foreign policy implementation requires both exceptional courage and caution, considering the challenges we face.

The main priority remains the reunification of the country and the peaceful restoration of its territorial integrity. In this regard, it is of special importance to maintain and strengthen support for issues related to the peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict at a high level on the international agenda”, - said Maka Botchorishvili.

She further stressed that the Government would continue its “active” efforts and use all possible diplomatic and legal leverage to achieve the de-occupation of the country’s Russian-occupied territories.
