In April 2022 the Consumer Price Index increased by 1.8% compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 12.8%. With regard to the annual core inflation, the prices increased by 5.0%, while the annual core inflation without tobacco amounted to 5.7%, reads the report of National Statistics Office of Georgia.
The monthly inflation rate was mainly influenced by price changes for the following groups: Food and non-alcoholic beverages: the prices for the group increased by 3.3%, contributing 1.11% to the overall monthly index change. The prices were higher for the following subgroups: vegetables (9.0%), oils and fats (7.4%), bread and cereals (4.7%), coffee, tea and cocoa (4.1%), fish (3.5%), fruit and grapes (3.2%), meat (2.2%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (1.8%; Transport: the prices increased by 3.7%, contributing 0.46% to the monthly inflation rate. Within the group the prices mainly increased for transport services (4.6%) and operation of personal transport equipment (3.9%); Clothing and footwear: the prices for the group posted a 4.9% increase, with the relevant contribution of 0.17% to the monthly inflation rate. Within the groups the prices were higher for both footwear (9.5%) and clothing (2.9%).
The annual inflation rate was mainly influenced by price changes for the following groups:
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: the prices in the group increased by 21.3%, contributing 6.77% to the overall annual inflation rate. Within the group the prices increased for the following subgroups: vegetables (46.2%), bread and cereals (28.8%), mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (24.1%), oils and fats (20.8%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (19.3%), fish (18.9%), milk, cheese and eggs (18.0%), coffee, tea and cocoa (17.6%), fruit and grapes (14.4%), meat (10.9%);
Transport: the prices increased by 22.4%, contributing 2.7% to the annual inflation rate. Within the group the prices increased for operation of personal transport equipment (29.1%), transport services (10.8%) and purchase of vehicles (3.9%);
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: the prices for the group posted a 9.4% increase, which contributed 0.97% to the annual inflation rate. The prices were higher for the following subgroups: maintenance and repair of the dwelling (14.4%), electricity, gas and other fuels (11.2%) and actual rentals for housing (6.5%).
