We remain committed to further deepening EU-Georgia relations, reads the letter of the Vice President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, to the political leaders of Georgia, which he sent to the Center for Civic Initiatives and Innovation.
“Let me reiterate that, in the context of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine, the EU continues to be committed to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders. The EU will continue to stand with Georgia to strengthen its resilience and support peaceful conflict resolution.
The EU understands the importance of Georgia"s membership application for the Georgian people, who wish to be part of the EU. The Council has received the application and invited the Commission to submit its opinion on it. The EU leaders endorsed this decision on 11 March 2022 during the informal EU Summit in Versailles.
In the meantime, let me assure you that we remain committed to further deepening EU-Georgia relations. In this regard, progress in the implementation of key reform priorities and advancing the rule of law through cross-party cooperation will be crucial. This is essential for the effective implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and for Georgia to further advance in its European ambitions.
The EU will continue to advocate for ambitious reforms, to the benefit of Georgia and its citizens”, - reads the letter.
