Police seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi and regions - 8 detained

As a result of investigative activities, the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs seized illegal firearms and ammunition in Tbilisi, Samegrelo, Shida Kartli and Kakheti - 8 people were detained.

The officers of the Detectives (Operative) Main Division and the Main Investigation Division under Tbilisi Police Department arrested previously convicted D.G., (DoB 1986). During the search of his house, law enforcement officers seized unregistered Makarov pistol, 45 ammunition cartridges of various calibers. Police also detained M.T. (DoB 1985). During the search activities held in detainee’s house, unregistered revolver and 13 ammunition cartridges of “Nagani” system were found as evidence. Both detainees are accused of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition.

The officers of Patrol Police Department, as a result of investigative activities, arrested G.R. (DoB 1994), convicted for various crimes in the past and currently on probation. He was arrested in Tbilisi on charges of illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms. During the personal search of the detainee, the police seized a pistol, a magazine and15 ammunition cartridges as evidence.

The officers of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of Mestia Division detained Z.N. (DoB1976) in Mestia on the charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms. During a search of detainee’s home, police seized an automatic rifle, a magazine and 54 rounds of ammunition.

The officers of Chkhorotsku Division under Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department detained T.N. (DoB 1973), I.J. (DoB 1963) at various times on charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition. During the search activities held in detainees’ residential houses, police seized automatic firearm, 2 magazines and 78 cartridges for different types of firearms.

The officers of Kakheti Police Department detained formerly convicted I.K, (DoB 1972). Police seized two Kalashnikov assault rifle, two magazines and 56 cartridges as evidence during search activities held in his house. I.K. is accused of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition.

The officers of Gori Police Division of Shida Kartli Police Department arrested B.M. (DoB 1984) on the charges of illegal purchase and storage of firearms. Police in the city of Gori, as a result of a search held in detainee’s house, seized automatic firearm, 2 magazines and 146 cartridges as evidence.

The committed crime envisions from 3 to 12 years of imprisonment.

Investigation on the facts of illegal purchase and storage of firearms and ammunition is underway under article 236, III and IV parts of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
