18 million people have been affected by the Russian invasion, including 6.7 million who have been internally displaced - WHO

The World Health Organization on Monday said it was coordinating the delivery of critical medical equipment and drugs to Ukraine as its healthcare system grapples with supply shortages, writes FORBES.

In a statement, the WHO said that a total of 18 million people have been affected by the Russian invasion, including 6.7 million who have been internally displaced and 3 million refugees who have left the country.

The global agency has set up a hub in neighboring Poland to support operations into Ukraine and stepped up surveillance of possible disease outbreaks in the country. The relief mission is being carried out in coordination with Ukraine’s health ministry.

“The coming days and weeks will see a constant flow of medical supplies, as part of an effort to ensure people’s access to essential drugs and medical care”, - WHO Statement

The WHO also condemned attacks on medical facilities inside Ukraine, saying: “Every single attack deprives people of life-saving services. Attacks on health care are violations of international humanitarian law and human rights”.
