The presentation of the jury campaign project “The Jury Court - Your Voice in Justice” has been held at the General Prosecution Service of Georgia.

The Jury Information Campaign which is being carried out by the Prosecution Service of Georgia with the support of the US Embassy, ​​aims to raise public awareness about the Jury Institute.

The presentation was attended by Irakli Shotadze, Prosecutor General of Georgia, Deputy Prosecutor Generals, Representatives of the General Prosecution Service of Georgia, Lena Owens, Resident Legal Advisor to the State Department of Justice of the United States of America, employees of the Department of Justice of the Embassy of the United States of America, judges, representatives of the Council of Justice, Bar Association and Legal Aid Service, participants involved in the campaign to support the Jury Institute.

The Prosecutor General of Georgia, Irakli Shotadze, thanked the Embassy of the United States of America for its active support of the campaign, summarized the period of existence of the Jury Institute in Georgia, and focused on the challenges the Jury Court is facing.

According to him, giving proper information to citizens within the campaign will have a positive effect in two main directions- interest in the jury court will be increased and many more people will express their willingness and readiness to participate in the process.

“Today we are facing a major challenge, the public has little information about the jury institute, due to which the number of citizens who are ready to take part in the process and consider the case objectively and impartially is low. In order for the public to receive comprehensive information about this institution, to realize the importance of fulfilling its civil duty and to feel its share of responsibility in the execution of justice, we are commencing a campaign with joint efforts and mobilization, as well as active involvement of the civil sector successful results of which will significantly determine the future fate of the Institute. I would also like to mention that involvement of the honorary citizens of our country in the campaign is especially interesting and important to us, people who have won the respect of the society through their professional activities, successful and memorable career”, - said Irakli Shotadze.

Lena Owens, a resident legal adviser to the State Department of Justice of the United States of America, spoke about the importance of the campaign and noted that it"s important in order to strengthen the Jury Institute.

“We are honored to support and assist this campaign and we hope that this campaign will help Georgian citizens understand what a jury court is and the responsibilities that accompanies it”, - added Lena Owens.

Natia Merebashvili, Deputy Prosecutor General, presented the campaign “The Jury Court - Your Voice in Justice” during the event. She spoke about the importance of a jury court in the implementation of justice and noted that it is important to provide comprehensive information about the jury institute to the general public.

The campaign “The Jury Court - Your Voice in Justice” will be held throughout the country.
