Irakli Garibashvili meets with Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Prime Minister of Georgia met Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Held within the scope of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, the meeting the friendly relations and successful cooperation between the two countries in both bilateral and multilateral formats. Irakli Garibashvili thanked Mark Rutte for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, adding that the Georgian Government prizes the far-reaching involvement of the Netherlands in the EU Monitoring Mission.

The parties expressed a mutual interest in deeper cooperation across a variety of areas, including trade and economy, tourism, and maritime interaction. The meeting underlined that next year marks is special for the two countries" bilateral relations in that it marks the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

The meeting paid special attention Georgia’s progress toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Garibashvili pointed out Georgia’s ambitious goal of officially applying for full EU membership in 2024, also underlining that Georgia is the EU"s reliable partner making a tremendous contribution to ensuring international peace and stability.

The parties singled out successful cooperation with NATO and the engagement of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the implementation of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. The parties also highlighted the importance of Black Sea security for ensuring overall Euro-Atlantic security and Georgia"s important role in this direction. The meeting also underscored Georgia"s formidable contribution to the recent evacuation effort from Afghanistan.

Garibashvili thanked Rutte for supporting and co-sponsoring Georgia-related resolutions in the UN.
