The Speaker of the Parliament said after casting his ballot in today’s local elections that the arrest of Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili will not affect “brotherly relations with Ukraine”.

“When a person makes a promise a hundred times, it becomes hard to believe. Of course, you are surprised. We heard a statement yesterday saying that they were in control of the entire route from Ukraine and arrested him, and no one was injured as a result. My teammates did not lie, they said what they thought. I also thought that Saakashvili was not in Georgia, I could not believe it.

Politicians had not been informed of the special operation which aimed at Saakashvili"s arrest and that is why the ruling party MPs were making different statements on Saakashvili’s presence in Georgia. Fewer people should have known about the special operation to prevent any threats.

As for the relations with Ukraine, Georgia and Ukraine have always supported each other both in difficult and happy times”, - said Kakha Kuchava.
