I am more and more concerned about the steps taken backwards in Georgia - Senator Jim Risch

I am more and more concerned about the steps taken backwards in Georgia. Such a statement made Jim Risch, a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, at the committee meeting.

“We are frustrated with what is happening in Georgia. More than 50 journalists have been beaten in recent weeks - one of them died as a result of injuries.

Several judges were appointed to the Supreme Court against the April 19 agreement. I know Senator Shaheen shares my concern in this regard, we have had a number of discussions about it. I hope we will work with the Georgian government to discuss these issues.

Senator Shaheen and I were in Georgia in 2012, when they were holding elections. We thought it would be a fresh start, but since then we have been regularly frustrated with what is happening in the country.

They, various parties, are coming to Washington and each of them is trying to involve us and make us take their side in their political maneuvers. We tell them that they have to solve it themselves. We are not going to take anyone’s side, but they are not making much progress”, - said Jim Risch.
