The process of appointing judges to the Supreme Court will not be suspended - Irakli Kobakhidze

The process of appointing judges to the Supreme Court will not be suspended. Such a statement made today the Chairperson of the Georgian Dream after the session of the party’s political council.

“We do not understand the statements of certain politicians, as if the nomination and election of judges of the Supreme Court contradicts the spirit of Michel’s agreement. The spirit of the agreement cannot be defined as something that directly contradicts the text. This circumstance obliges the Parliament to act in accordance with the Constitution and the principle of parliamentary sovereignty, to hear and vote for the candidates nominated for the position of judges of the Supreme Court.

The Rules of Procedure of the Parliament establish an unprecedented transparent procedure for verifying the competence and good faith of candidates. According to this procedure, the Parliament will hear each candidate and make a decision on their appointment.

Despite the fact that 4 out of 8 opposition parties that overcame the threshold or more than half of the opposition parliamentarians did not sign a political agreement against the calls of international partners, the Georgian Dream is and will remain faithful to the agreement and ensure its proper implementation. As you can see, the ruling team fully adheres to the agreement and will continue to act in this spirit and principle”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
