26-year-old Russian tennis player detained over suspected match-fixing at Roland Garros

French police have arrested Russian tennis star Yana Sizikova after her first-round defeat at Roland Garros. According to French media, 26-year-old Sizikova is suspected of match fixing. It would include a match she played at the grand slam tournament in Paris last year, writes Le Parisien.

Sizikova then formed a double with American Madison Brengle. They lost in the first round to two Romanian tennis players. Sizikova was back on track in Paris on Thursday, although that did not last long. Within an hour she was eliminated with compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova by the Australian duo Storm Sanders/Ajla Tomljanovic: 1-6 1-6. Afterwards, Sizikova was stopped by the police in her hotel room.

The tennis star from Moscow is in place 101 in the world ranking for doubles. In singles she takes place 765. Sizikova only managed to collect just over $200,000 in prize money in her career. She booked one tournament win as a double player, two years ago in Lausanne.
