Due to the high public interest, Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to provide additional information to the public regarding the incident in the village of Sakulia, Tskaltubo Municipality.

“On June 1 of the current year, the police arrested I.M. (DoB 1992) in the village of Sakulia, on the basis of the court decision.

The agency already informed the public that during the arrest of I.M. local residents offered resistance to the police officers, in the course of which the law enforcers were assaulted. Locals restricted the movement of the police, attempted to release the citizen who was detained on the basis of the court decision, tried to seize the police weapon and offered resistance. At the same time, locals threw stones and other objects at police officers, as a result of which two officers received health injuries.

With the aim to de-escalate the situation and defuse the confrontation, police fired warning shots. Special means have also been applied.

In connection with the mentioned incident, investigation is in progress under Article 353 of the Criminal Code of Georgia”, - reads the statement of the Ministry.
