The ruling party does not expect the EU to impose sanctions on Georgia

The ruling party does not expect the EU to impose sanctions on Georgia. Such a statement made today Kakha Kuchava, Vice Speaker of the Parliament.

“When we talk about the statement made by the MEPs yesterday, we must not forget that this is the position of the seven MEPs.

This is very important, however, this is not the official position of the European Union, so to talk about any kind of sanctions or any restrictions is yet early and lacks any grounds. As for the letter, we understand very well that they are not only worried about the problem, but also trying to find a solution. It is unfortunate that I saw some inaccuracy in the letter - referring to Christian Danielsson’s document and mentioning early elections in this context.

Danielsson did not mention early elections in his proposal. The emergence of a new opinion and the indication that it was mentioned in Danielsson’s document is simply an inaccuracy and this will be confirmed by Danielsson himself. It is very important to take into account the opinion of everyone, not only of seven MPs, but even if there is one MEP.

However, the expression of opinion by seven or even 27 MEPs does not mean that certain sanctions will be imposed. It is not right to speculate about this”, - said Kakha Kuchava.
