Considering the assessments made in the Senate, the opposition will have to take counter-steps - Kakha Kuchava

Considering the assessments made in the Senate, the opposition will have to take counter-steps for the agreement. Such a statement made today Kakha Kuchava, a member of the parliamentary majority.

“The U.S. Senate sent clear messages to Georgia: since 2012, Georgia’s democracy has strengthened and deepened; the U.S. relies on the OSCE / ODIHR report and recognizes the elections in Georgia as free, democratic and competitive; everyone agrees that the opposition must enter the Parliament; the rule of law must be respected by all, including political leaders; they call on all parties, including small parties, to put aside short-term political interests and to serve the democratic development of the country; Georgia is an example for other countries and a leader in the region.

Considering the assessments made in the Senate, the opposition will have to take counter-steps for the agreement, an attempt to present the participation in the negotiations as a compromise will not be enough and will not be perceived as such.

An agreement must be reached and the opposition must enter the Parliament.

Tact remains that according to the Senate, Georgia is a pro-Western democracy and a role model in the region, and the Georgian Dream as a pro-Western force made a significant progress which brought us closer to our strategic goal to apply for EU membership in 2024”, - said Kakha Kuchava.
