A company-sized unit of Georgian peacekeepers is on the way to take up their tasks in NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan.
The unit, selected from the 3rd Infantry Brigade and commanded by Captain Shota Giorgadze, received a sendoff from Georgian Defence Forces commanders and Germany’s Defence Attache to Georgia on their departure to Afghanistan.
At Camp Marmal, a base of the German Bundeswehr forces in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the unit will replace a company of GDF’s Eastern Command and serve under the German contingent.
Over the next 6 months the company will carry out Quick Reaction Force tasks for the NATO’s peacekeeping mission
