Border Police helicopter restored weekly flights to Tusheti

The Border Police helicopter of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has restored weekly flights from Alvani to Tusheti. Border Police aviation has already transported first passengers to the village of Omalo with the restored flight. Due to the road closure, the rest of the population in Tusheti was brought to the lower lands.

The Border Police helicopter will regularly conduct flights to Omalo and nearby villages once a week to provide the needs of the local population before reopening the main road and serve the local population along with the border guards.

Since the appointment of regular flights, the number of population staying for winter in Tusheti has doubled. They also have the opportunity to resume construction and repair works before the opening of the main road, which significantly contributes to the development of local tourism. Due to difficult geographical and meteorological conditions, the village of Omalo has been cut off from the rest of Georgia for 6 months.
