The issue of extradition of Canadian citizen detained at Tbilisi International Airport on September 22 at US request to be discussed

The US authorities thanked the Georgian law enforcement agencies for their successful cooperation and assistance in the framework of international cooperation. The Southern California District Attorney’s Office attaches particular importance to the assistance provided by Georgian partners, including the Attorney General’s Office of Georgia, the Georgian Border Police, the Isani Police Department, and the Isani-Samgori District Attorney’s Office.

At the request of the competent authorities of the United States, law enforcement officers arrested a Canadian citizen M.P. at the Tbilisi International Airport on September 22, 2020. Arrested M.P. was wanted by US law enforcement for fraudulent charges against him in the United States. The arrest warrant for M.P. is issued by the U.S. District Court of Southern California.

As a result of the illegal actions of M.P. and his accomplice, which manifested themselves in the use of substandard quality construction materials by the company under their control and the falsification of other important information, several important US infrastructure facilities in the African region were destroyed due to poor quality.

Based on the motion of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, according to the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, extradition detention was used as a measure of restraint against M.P. and his extradition to the United States is currently being considered.
