Today’s visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia will bring a new impetus to our relations - Darchiashvili

Today’s visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia will bring a new impetus to our relations. Such a statement made today the Georgia Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, after the meeting with his Armenian colleague, Ararat Mirzoyan.

“I would like to point out that Georgia and Armenia have a special friendship and good neighborliness that goes back centuries. I am sure that your visit today will bring a new impetus to our relations. It should be noted that with the signing of the declaration of strategic partnership, our bilateral cooperation has moved to a qualitatively new level.

This new stage has found a turning point in our multilateral cooperation. At today’s meeting, I once again thanked my colleague for the historic support of the UN resolution confirming the right of return of all internally displaced persons and refugees to Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, for which I want to thank you once again. Georgia and Armenia firmly support and respect each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. At the meeting, we talked about the intensive, multidimensional cooperation between our countries.

Armenia is in the top-10 trade partners of Georgia, and in the top three in terms of tourism. We discussed various directions and I am sure that the economic cooperation between us will be further strengthened, which will bring benefits to both countries. Also, we talked about current processes in the region, existing challenges and opportunities. We emphasized the importance of our joint efforts in the process of dealing with these challenges.

Your visit coincided with very praiseworthy days for Georgia - our national football team achieved historic results at the European Championship, and the Georgian national team was enthusiastically supported by our Armenian brothers, which makes us very happy. We greatly appreciate your support.

Recently, the football federations of Georgia and Armenia submitted a joint application to host the U20 World Championship. I hope that our countries will successfully conduct this tournament and that our teams will have appropriate results”, - said Ilia Darchiashvili.
